Queensland (Qld)

Queensland covers an area of more than 1.8 million square kilometres in the north east corner of Australia. The capital city of Queensland is Brisbane, which is located in the south east corner of the state on the Brisbane River and Moreton Bay. Brisbane is Australia's third largest city after Sydney and Melbourne.

Sometimes referred to as the Sunshine State, Queensland's climate varies from sub-tropical in the south around Brisbane and the Gold Coast, to tropical in the north in areas such as Cairns. Queensland is Australia's playground and tourism is a major draw card to the State, not just for Australian's but for people from all over the world. With around 7,000km of coastline adjoining the Pacific Ocean and the Coral Sea, Queensland offers some of the best beaches you will find anywhere in the world.

But Queensland is not just about tourism. Mining and agriculture are also significant industries in the State, with sugar cane being a major crop.
